Privacy Policy for PDF Reader - Editor & Viewer
At ByteWhales ("we," "our," or "us"), we respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use our mobile application, PDF Reader - Editor & Viewer (the "App"), available on iOS and Android.
Please read this Privacy Policy carefully. By downloading, accessing, or using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
1. Summary of Key Principles
Local Processing First: All your PDF reading, editing, annotations, digital signatures, page modifications, and scans are processed 100% locally on your device.
No Mandatory Account: You can use all core features without registering, creating an account, or logging in.
No File Uploads: We do not upload, read, store, or monitor your private PDF files, documents, or scanned images on our servers.
Zero Sale of Data: We never sell, rent, or trade your personal information or document contents to any third party.
2. Information We Collect and Process
A. Document Data & Local Storage
PDF Files & Documents: When you open, view, edit, sign, merge, split, compress, or scan documents, these files remain securely in your local device storage or the app's sandboxed storage directory. We do not transmit or upload your documents to external cloud servers.
Signatures & Annotations: Any signatures, drawings, stamps, notes, or form fills you create are saved directly into your local document and stored only on your device.
User Preferences: Local preferences (such as theme mode, reading orientation, favorite files, and recent documents list) are saved locally on your device using Hive local storage.
B. Device Information & Diagnostics (Automatically Collected)
To ensure app performance, reliability, and stability, we automatically collect non-personal diagnostic and technical data through third-party SDKs:
Device Characteristics: Device model, operating system version (iOS/Android), system language, screen resolution, and available storage space.
Diagnostic & Crash Logs: Crash stack traces, memory statistics, and error logs collected via Firebase Crashlytics to diagnose bugs and prevent crashes.
Aggregated Usage Metrics: Anonymous usage metrics (such as feature interaction frequency and session duration) collected via Firebase Analytics to optimize app performance.
C. Customer Support Inquiries
If you voluntarily contact us via email for customer support or feedback, we collect your email address and any details you provide in your message solely to respond to your inquiry and resolve technical issues.
3. Device Permissions We Request
The App requests the following device permissions only when necessary for specific features:
Camera (NSCameraUsageDescription / android.permission.CAMERA)
Purpose: Required when you use the built-in Document Scanner to capture pages, receipts, notes, and photos to convert them into PDF files.
Privacy: Camera feeds are processed locally in real time and are never recorded, streamed, or uploaded.
Photo Library / Storage (NSPhotoLibraryUsageDescription / Storage Permissions)
Purpose: Required to import existing photos for image-to-PDF conversion or to save exported PDF pages and images to your device photo gallery.
Privacy: Only the specific files you select are accessed.
Notifications (android.permission.POST_NOTIFICATIONS / iOS Notifications)
Purpose: Used to notify you when batch file conversions, compression tasks, or downloads complete. You can disable notifications at any time through your device settings.
App Tracking Transparency (NSUserTrackingUsageDescription on iOS)
Purpose: With your explicit permission, used by Google AdMob to deliver personalized ads and measure advertising campaign effectiveness. If permission is declined, non-personalized ads may be displayed.
